Submission

Before submitting a manuscript, please read carefully the Instructions for Authors, the Publication Ethics, Rights and Malpractice Statement, and the journal’s Aims and Scope.

Please prepare your manuscript using the provided Journal Template.

Author Declarations at Submission

By submitting a manuscript to Medicine and Materials, the corresponding author confirms on behalf of all authors that:

  • the manuscript is original and has not been previously published in substantially the same form;
  • the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal;
  • all listed authors meet the applicable authorship criteria and have made appropriate contributions to the work;
  • all authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree with its submission to Medicine and Materials;
  • an Author Contributions statement is provided, preferably using the CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy;
  • all relevant financial and non-financial Conflicts of Interest have been disclosed;
  • all sources of research funding have been disclosed;
  • for research involving human participants, appropriate ethics approval has been obtained where required and the manuscript includes the name of the Ethics Committee/Institutional Review Board and the approval or protocol number;
  • written informed consent has been obtained where applicable, and consent for publication has been obtained where identifiable participant or patient information is included;
  • for research involving animals, the study complies with applicable ethical and animal-welfare requirements and includes the appropriate approval information;
  • the appropriate EQUATOR Network reporting guideline has been followed where applicable;
  • clinical trial registration details are provided where applicable;
  • a Data Availability Statement is included for research articles;
  • any use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies has been disclosed in accordance with journal policy;
  • all third-party copyrighted material is appropriately licensed or used with permission;
  • the manuscript complies with the scientific scope, ethical requirements, and editorial policies of Medicine and Materials.

Peer Review and Editorial Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening before external peer review.

The Editorial Office may check:

  • fit with the journal’s Aims and Scope;
  • manuscript completeness;
  • originality and textual similarity using plagiarism-detection software;
  • authorship and contributorship;
  • Conflicts of Interest and funding declarations;
  • ethics approval and informed consent requirements;
  • clinical trial registration, where applicable;
  • compliance with relevant EQUATOR reporting guidelines;
  • review methodology and search strategy for review articles;
  • Data Availability statements;
  • AI-use disclosures.

Manuscripts that successfully pass initial screening are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers using a single-blind peer-review process.

Cover Letter

A cover letter to the Editor is mandatory and should include:

  • the title of the manuscript;
  • confirmation that all authors have approved the manuscript and its submission;
  • confirmation that the manuscript is original and not simultaneously submitted elsewhere;
  • a brief statement explaining why the manuscript fits the Aims and Scope of Medicine and Materials;
  • the principal novelty and scientific or clinical significance of the work;
  • a declaration of any Conflicts of Interest;
  • information concerning ethics approval and informed consent, where applicable;
  • the reporting guideline used, where applicable;
  • clinical trial registration details, where applicable;
  • disclosure of any use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies, where applicable.

File Preparation

Please save your manuscript as a *.DOC or *.DOCX Microsoft Word file.

The manuscript file should be named using the family name of the first author, for example:

Smith.docx

The manuscript file should normally not exceed 15 MB. If supplementary files or high-resolution figures exceed this limit, please contact the Editorial Office.

Submission by E-mail

Please send the following files:

  • manuscript prepared according to the journal template;
  • cover letter;
  • reporting checklist or supplementary documentation where applicable;
  • any supplementary files required for evaluation.

Submit the manuscript by e-mail to:

The main body of the submission e-mail should include:

  • manuscript title;
  • article type;
  • name of the corresponding author;
  • affiliation;
  • valid e-mail address;
  • names of all co-authors.

An acknowledgement of receipt and manuscript registration number will normally be sent by e-mail within approximately 72 hours. If no acknowledgement is received, please contact the Editorial Office.

Publication Charges

Submission fee: NONE

Article Publication Charge (APC): CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Authors are currently not charged an Article Publication Charge for accepted manuscripts.

Any future change in the APC policy will be announced transparently on the journal website and will not influence peer review or editorial decisions.
